Join us for the last festival of Summer! The Go Jump in the Lake Festival takes place on September 3rd at 8:30am.

Splash into the cool, refreshing lake water after running around the beautiful shores of Boiling Spring Lakes.  Not only are there prizes for the fastest runners, but also for the biggest splashes, for both kids and adults!  End Summer 2016 with a splash this Labor Day weekend at the 7th Annual Go Jump in the Lake race.

The Southport Concert Series is here to liven up your summer nights! The concerts start at 6pm and feature some great beach and rock and roll music–perfect for a summer evening! The concert schedule is posted below.

Concerts will be held at the Garrison House of Davidson Street in Southport, located at 111 S. Davis Street. So grab some beach chairs and your dancing shoes and come on out! All concerts are free!

Ocean Isle Beach: A History by Miller Pope and Jacqueline DeGroot

Anyone who has ever vacationed at Ocean Isle will love this book. Ocean Isle: A History by local historians Miller Pope and Jacqueline DeGroot is a collection of stories told through interviews and recollections from locals who saw what we know as Ocean Isle Beach emerge from uninhabited coastal land to a charming coastal paradise.

The N.C. 4th of July Festival Beach Day is a full day of activities on Oak Island designed for the whole family. If sand sculpture building, volleyball, skateboard, bocce ball contests sound like fun then you will really enjoy Beach Day. But the fun doesn’t stop with the contests, there is also evening entertainment, shag contest and anniversary fireworks.

Held annually on July 1st, the celebration combines the merger of the Towns of Yaupon Beach & Long Beach into the Town of Oak Island with the celebration of our Independence Day festivities. The anniversary fireworks display in will be held on July 1st from the Oak Island Pier (705 Ocean Drive, Oak Island) at approximately 9:00pm. Beach Day activities are organized and sponsored by the Oak Island Parks & Recreation Department.

The Shag Contest is organized by the Society of Brunswick Shaggers. What is shag dancing? The “Carolina Shag” originated along the area between Myrtle Beach, SC and Wilmington, NC in the 1940s and is still popular today. A couple’s dance, the Carolina Shag, a descendant of the Carolina Jitterbug, is performed while enjoying beach music. Registration for the Shag Contest is from 6:00p.m.-6:45p.m. at Middleton Park Extension Soccer Field. The Shag Contest will be held during the band’s break around 7:00p.m. in Middleton Park Extension. Free to enter but registration form required.

The Oak Island Open Pier Fishing Tournament is a unique pier fishing tournament for all levels of fisherman. Participants can fish on their favorite pier, on Saturday, May 21st anytime between 6am -5pm and on Sunday, May 22nd from 6am-12pm.

Categories are 1-Spot, croaker, whiting, spade, pompano, pinfish. Category 2—Spanish, blue, sheephead, trout, red drum, black drum, flounder. Category 3—King mackerel, cobia, jack crevalle, amberjack. Fishermen may enter one or all three of the species categories.
